Dr. Günther N. Schäfer (M.D.)
As both a general medical practitioner and someone who suffers from psoriasis, Dr. Günther N. Schäfer began his search for a way to alleviate his suffering in 1963. After reading a professional article by the chemist Dr. Schweckendiek, he discovered fumaric acid as an active substance and through self observation over many decades and using this natural product, he developed a systemic therapy form that effectively brings relief - even in the most severe cases of psoriasis and neurodermatitis. His efforts finally led him to become a specialist for these diseases. His reputation grew rapidly and over a period of two decades more than 8000 patients from Germany and many other countries were treated successfully in his practice, using fumaric acid therapy.
As an outsider method, however, his fumaric acid therapy was for a long time rejected by the medical world, but basic medical research, starting in the late 1980’s, confirmed the effectiveness of this treatment method for psoriasis and neurodermatitis. In 1994, the treatment was authorized and the appropriate medicaments officially registered by the German health authorities.
Just as he did during the development of this basic treatment method over many years, Dr. Schäfer always places the focus for a successful course of treatment on the accompaniment the patients, besides treatment with medicaments and on increasing the patient’s awareness of how to observe the course of his symptoms. This is the basis for understanding the illness and enables the patient to begin adopting behavioral patterns that are beneficial to his body and skin.
Self-observation is the clue! For this reason, every copy of the book contains a nutrition table and an outline for a self-observation diary.
