The majority of younger people who suffer from psoriasis or neurodermatitis have a tendency to cut themselves off from their environment as far as possible. This is an understandable protective mechanism for handling disappointment in interpersonal relationships. One tries to avoid disappointment, to prevent rejection, or not to let it go as far as withdrawal by the other person or the life partner when they discover the skin problems caused by psoriasis or neurodermatitis. In this way, many people with psoriasis and neurodermatitis become very lonely. This does not happen overnight but in a gradual, almost unnoticeable process.
